The Board

Kariema Lowe is an experienced fundraising consultant and trainer. Before freelancing, Kariema worked in resource mobilisation at a number of institutions, including developing alumni relations operations at the University of Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. She has raised funds for organisations working in areas as diverse as teacher training, early childhood development, tertiary education, mental health, youth life skills, intellectual disability, community counselling, children’s centres and after-school care. She is our designated project manager.

Fanelwa Ajayi is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of the Western Cape; and founder and director of the non-profit organisation, AmaQawe ngeMfundo (Heroes through Education) that provides Grade 9–12 learners at three high schools in Khayelitsha with the skills, knowledge and confidence to become future science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) leaders.

Adelah Isaac is an entrepreneur. She has tried her hand at a number of entrepreneurial ventures and is currently running and expanding her business in the catering industry.

Nazeem Lowe is a former anti-apartheid activist, political prisoner and military veteran. He has been a teacher in public schools, a museum curator, entrepreneur and trainer. He spent ten years developing innovative education and publication projects at Iziko Museums of Cape Town, South Africa’s largest museum organisation, where he also worked as communications manager. He has been formally trained in management and the logical framework analysis methodology. He is the author of four books and co-founder of a for-profit company that provides communication and publishing services.

Kiyaam Ryklief is a former anti-apartheid activist and military veteran. He is a commercial produce grower, among a very small number of emerging black farmers contributing to food security in the Western Cape. His farming operation directly sustains about fifty people. His family runs and self-funds a soup kitchen on the farm that feeds unemployed workers and indigent people from the surrounding community.
